Everton’s relegation battle 2021/22

We had started the season fairly well and were 5th in October, but a downturn in form meant that whatever goodwill Rafa Benitez had evaporated quickly. The former Liverpool manager should never have been appointed. As we entered May we saw an extraordinary effort by Everton fans to maintain our Premier League status.

Plumes of blue smoke welcomed the team on arrival.

A Richarlison goal and some quite stunning goalkeeping by Pickford secured a vital 1–0 victory.

Our next match as awa to Leicester. We won 2–1 to move out of the relegation zone.

The away end celebrated long after the final whistle with some incredible scenes.

We picked up an important point away to Watford, but lost at home to Brentford. With two games left our future was in our own hands, but a final round fixture against high flying Arsenal meant that our final home game, against Crystal Palace, was crucial. Losing 2–0 at half time things looked bleak. But we turned it around.
